Aarti Diya – Metal & Stone, Lotus with Handle

A gold-tone aarti lamp built as an open lotus, each petal tipped with a faceted pink stone, with a matching jewelled handle running back from the bowl. Once the wick is lit the stones pick the flame up and throw it back around the room.

Lighter than the brass lamps and made for occasions rather than daily use — Diwali, Navratri, weddings, engagements and mehndi nights, where the lamp is part of the decoration as much as the ritual. It photographs particularly well, which is half the reason people buy it.

Significance: Held and circled before the deity during aarti, in the same way as a plain brass lamp. Decorated aarti lamps are traditionally brought out for the festival calendar and for weddings, where the thali itself is dressed for the occasion.
