A glass turtle and plate set — the tortoise (kachua) resting on its own dish, as placed in Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui for longevity, stability and steady good fortune.
The tortoise is traditionally set on the plate with a little water, and positioned facing into the home — most often in the north or north-east, on a hallway console, a shelf near the entrance, or on the mandir alongside the deities. It is a common housewarming, Diwali and Griha Pravesh gift for exactly that reason.
The most distinctive of the four — a leaf-shaped dish with ribs radiating from the stem to a rippled edge, and a larger tortoise with a finely worked shell sitting across it. The leaf form makes it read as an ornament in its own right rather than a saucer, which is why it suits a console table or a sideboard as well as the mandir.
