Twisted Cotton Wicks

Long twisted cotton wicks by Kanchan, supplied in a sealed pack. The type used in a standing diya or a hanging akhand jyot rather than a small oil lamp.

A twisted wick draws oil steadily up its whole length and holds a taller, more even flame than a rolled vati — which is what you want when the lamp has to stay lit unattended rather than be watched through a single aarti.

Significance: Used wherever a flame must be kept burning continuously: the akhand jyot lit through the nine nights of Navratri, or the lamp kept alight through a Satyanarayan katha or an akhand paath. An unbroken flame is understood as an unbroken prayer, so the wick matters.
